Local Man Convicted of Second-Degree Murder

The trial in the case of State of Louisiana v. Jeffery Lavell Marshall began Monday July 28, 2025, in the Ouachita Parish Courthouse.  Marshall was charged with Second-Degree Murder for the homicide of Frederick Grayson-Thompson.  The trial concluded Thursday July 31, 2025, before a jury of twelve people. The jury deliberated less than one hour before unanimously finding Marshall guilty as charged of Second- Degree Murder.

The case was tried before Honorable Walt Caldwell, IV.  Chief Felony Prosecutor Mike Fontenot and Assistant District Attorney Charlotte Farshian represented the State in the prosecution.  The Defendant was represented by attorney Evan McMichael.  The Defendant will be formally sentenced at hearing to be scheduled by the Court.  The victim’s family members will be given the opportunity to provide a statement to the court prior to the Defendant’s sentence being imposed.
