Juvenile Crimes
The Juvenile Division works to protect the public with an emphasis on serving children and their families.
The Juvenile Division is responsible for prosecuting violent crimes committed by children who have not reached the age of 17 years. In March of 2019, the Juvenile Division began prosecuting non-violent crimes committed by children who have not yet reached the age of 18 years. It also pursues cases involving children (17 years of age and younger) who are ungovernable or truant. Additionally, the Juvenile Division handles cases for Families in Need of Services and Children in Need of Care.
Please report all crimes committed by children to your local law enforcement agency. If it is an emergency, please dial 911. You may also report child abuse to the Child Abuse Hotline: 1 (855) 452-5437.
Notice: There are confidentiality rules specific to Juvenile Court. Louisiana’s Children’s Code Article 407 explains which hearings are confidential and which are open to the public. Further, Children’s Code Article 412 explains the confidentiality of juvenile court records and provides for certain limited exceptions and sanctions for violations.
