PRESS RELEASE FROM THE FOURTH JUDICIAL DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE
A five-day jury trial began on Monday July 7, 2025, and ended July 11, 2025, in the case of State of Louisiana v. Latron Jones. The case was tried at the Ouachita Parish Courthouse before the Honorable Wendell Manning
Jones was charged with 1 count of Second-Degree Murder, 1 count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder, 1 count of Felon in Possession of a Firearm and multiple counts of Aggravated Damage to Property. The jury heard from multiple witnesses, including the investigating officers, the State’s Pathologist, and the Defendant. After the closing of all evidence and testimony, the jury deliberated for approximately 1.5 hours before unanimously finding Jones guilty as charged of Second-Degree Murder, Attempted Second-Degree Murder and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm. He was found not guilty of Aggravated Damage to Property. Second-Degree Murder carries a life sentence in Louisiana. The Defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on September 22, 2025.
First Assistant District Attorney Holly Chambers Jones and Assistant District Attorney John Wallace Freeman prosecuted the matter. The Defendant was represented by Attorney James Ross.
