UNDERSTANDING YOUR TRAFFIC TICKET

The 4th Judicial District Attorney's office handles traffic citations in Ouachita and Morehouse Parishes for tickets issued by:

  • Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office
  • Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office
  • Louisiana State Police (issued in Ouachita or Morehouse Parish)
  • Various other agencies (for example: Wildlife and Fisheries, DOTD, etc.)
  • Certain tickets issued by West Monroe Police Department (others are handled by West Monroe City Court)

If paying by mail, include a copy of your ticket and write the ticket number on your cashier's check or money order.  If paying in person, please bring a copy of the ticket you are paying with you. Paying your ticket constitutes a guilty plea. Failure to pay your ticket will result in suspension of your driver’s license and an additional fee.

Not all traffic tickets are payable out of court. Some traffic offenses require a mandatory court appearance. Examples of such offenses include Reckless Operation, Careless Operation, Failure to Stop for a School Bus, and any offense where an accident with injury occurred.

HOW TO READ YOUR TICKET

PRE-TRIAL INTERVENTION

The District Attorney's Office offers a Pre-Trial Diversion program for certain traffic violations. This program  does not require you to go to court and usually keeps tickets from affecting your vehicle insurance. Pre-Trial Diversion participants are required to take a safe driving course: either on-line or in-person depending on the violation.

To find out whether you qualify for the program, email the Ouachita office at [email protected] or the Morehouse office at [email protected].

Pre-Trial diversion fees may be paid online, in-person, or via mail.  Exact cash, cashier's check or money order are accepted for payments made in-person or on-line.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED FOR TRAFFIC DIVERSION, PLEASE FOLLOW THE LINK BELOW. IT WILL DIRECT YOU TO THE ONLINE SAFE-DRIVING COURSE. AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE YOU WILL BE DIRECTED TO THE ONLINE PAYMENT PORTAL.

PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THE TEST WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL.
