MISSISSIPPI MAN FOUND GUILTY OF VEHICULAR HOMICIDE

Jorge Lopez Benavides of Oxford, Mississippi, was found guilty of two counts of vehicular homicide and 1 count of first degree vehicular negligent injuring. Trial of the matter was held on April 14, 2021. Assistant District Attorney Shirley Wilson Davis represented the State of Louisiana. The Defendant was represented by Attorney John Roa. Judge Marcus Hunter presided over the trial. Following the Defendant’s guilty verdict, he was sentenced by the court to 20 years at hard labor for count 1 vehicular homicide, 19 years at hard labor for count 2 vehicular homicide, and 3 years at hard labor for count 3 first degree negligent injuring with all sentences to run concurrent.
