adult crimes
The Office of the District Attorney prosecutes criminal cases involving adult defendants (18 years of age or older) charged with violations of state criminal law and those who are 17 years of age that commit a crime of violence as defined by La R.S. 14:2. Felony crimes are those for which an offender may be sentenced to death or imprisonment with or without hard labor. A misdemeanor crime is any crime that is not a felony. Generally, misdemeanor crimes have a maximum sentence of no more than 180 days in parish jail and/or a fine of up to $1,000.00.
